Indra Nooyi is an Indian-born, naturalized American business executive who served as chairman and CEO of PepsiCo from 2006 to 2019. She stepped down as CEO on October 3, 2018, and as chairman on February 1, 2019, when she retired from the company. Under her twelve-year leadership, PepsiCo's sales grew by 80 percent, and its capitalization grew by $57 billion. Nooyi was the architect of PepsiCo's "Performance with Purpose" initiative to make healthier products, limit the company’s environmental footprint, and empower its people in the communities it serves.
Nooyi sits on several boards, including Amazon and Philips. She has received fifteen honorary degrees and has been awarded multiple honors, including India's Padma Bhushan and “Outstanding American by Choice” from the U.S. Department of State.
In 2021, Nooyi published her first book, a memoir titled My Life in Full: Work, Family, and Our Future. As of August 4, 2021, her net worth was estimated at $290 million.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from Madras Christian College and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. In 1978, Nooyi received a scholarship to attend Yale University and earned a master’s degree in public and private management.
Nooyi is married to Raj Nooyi and has two daughters, Preetha and Tara. She is also a devout Hindu who abstains from alcohol and is a vegetarian due to the religion’s teachings and traditions.
