American physicist and diplomat
Henry DeWolf Smyth (1898-1986) was an American physicist and diplomat. Born in Clinton, Oneida County, New York, he held citizenship in the United States. Smyth received his education at the University of Cambridge, where he was mentored by Ernest Rutherford, a prominent physicist. Edward Mills Purcell, who became a successful physicist himself, was one of Smyth's doctoral students. Smyth passed away in Princeton, New Jersey on September 11, 1986.
