Harold E. Varmus

Harold E. Varmus was born on December 18, 1939, in Oceanside, New York. He holds citizenship in the United States. Varmus is known for his numerous contributions to the field of medicine, having received the 1989 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

Varmus has an impressive educational background, having studied at various esteemed institutions such as Harvard University, Columbia University, Amherst College, and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. His doctoral advisor was J. Michael Bishop.

In addition to his remarkable achievements in medicine, Varmus is also the founder of the Public Library Of Science (PLOS).
