HEAVY.AI has been recognized with a Business Intelligence Group 2021 BIG Innovation Award for offering the first platform to harness the massive parallel processing capabilities of modern GPU and CPU hardware. Also in 2021, the Brendan Hall Group gave HEAVY.AI the Gold Award for “Excellence in Business Strategy and Technology Innovation.” In 2022, HEAVY.AI was selected for the insideBIGDATA IMPACT 50 List for Q1 and received an SIIA CODiE Award for “Best Big Data Reporting & Analytics Solution.”
HEAVY.AI was founded as MapD Technologies in 2013 by Todd Mostak and Thomas Graham and originated from research at Harvard and MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). Cofounder Todd Mostak built the original prototype of HEAVY.AI after tiring of the inability of conventional tools to allow for interactive exploration of big datasets while conducting his Harvard graduate research on the role of Twitter in the Arab Spring. He then joined MIT as a research fellow focusing on GPU databases before turning the HEAVY.AI project into a startup.
