An organization planned to launch in 2020 by actor Robert Downey Jr. which will involve using robotics and nanotechnology to clean up the planet. The announcement of plans for the Footprint Coalition came at Amazon’s re:Mars (Machine learning, Automation, Robotics, and Space) 2019 conference in Las Vegas. Robert Downey Jr. made the following comments regarding why he started the Footprint Coalition and what he is planning on doing with the company during its announcement:
Between robotics and nanotechnology we could probably clean up the planet significantly, if not entirely, within a decade. I’m going to spend the next months putting this together correctly and getting actual smart people around me.
Downey Jr. claims that artificial intelligence is a significant technological advancement that gives him hope humanity has the ability to make positive environmental changes. He admits to having a 'quiet sense of crisis' when it comes to the environment, and says he is 'A one-man carbon footprint nightmare colossus'.
