Bridgit began on January 1st, 2018 as a project of the WisdomTech Society and was subsequently incorporated on April 5, 2018, as a Social Purpose Corporation in the state of Washington. Bridgit is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area and has team members and advisors across the planet.
Bridgit's CEO and founder Daveed Benjamin says Bridgit started with the premise that the Internet is a poor way to organize information for discovery. learning, and collaboration and that making the Internet more connected like the human brain could result in a phase shift in humanity's collective intelligence and wisdom.
Bridgit won the 2019 Disruptive Technology Culture Driver award from the EU's flagship Next Generation Internet program.
Bridgit's team includes Daveed Benjamin, Colin Stewart, Zanette Johnson, Allah El Henson, Tracey Osbourne, and Justin Smith.
Bridgit is a Holochain partner and plans to build on the Holochain platform.
Bridgit states that it is powering the trusted web of the future - a social knowledge network that operates as an "always-on, wherever you are" overlay on top of today's Internet. Bridgit decentralizes links so that users can create smart links or “bridges" on any page that connect information on an idea by idea basis. Collectively the bridges constitute the "Internet of Ideas” - a much higher signal-to-noise and connected network than Today’s Internet. Bridgit uses the "Internet of Ideas" as the foundation for providing context that intends to strengthens users’ ability to identify fake posts and false news by themselves and enable discovery of trustworthy information orders of magnitude faster than search.
