Apical has 4 refineries, a biodiesel plant, a fats splitting plant and a crushing plant in IndonesiaIndonesia and China. Its refineries have a total capacity of 3.7 million metric tonnes per annum. Founded in 2006 by Indonesian Sukanto Tanoto, Apical is part of the group of companies managed by RGE.
Apical has operations in Tanjung Balai, DumaiDumai and Marunda in Indonesia, and in Nanjing, China. Its operations involve the refining and fractionation of crude palm oil, crude palm oil kernel and soy oil; crushing of palm kernels; production of shortening, margarine and powder fat, biodiesel, glycerin, crude fatty oil, fatty Acids and glycerol; and merchandising and distribution of crude palm oil and processed palm oil to the global market.
It acquired a 67.7% stake in SpainSpain's Bio-Oils on July 5, 2016, for $49 million.

Apical formed an alliance with palm oil industry stakeholders, non-government organizations and technology partner SAP to establish a blockchain-based palm oil platform to tackle landscape-level sustainability problems, as well as meeting goals related to NDPE (No Deforestation, No Peat, No Exploitation).
