American mathematician
Alonzo Church (1903-1995) was a mathematician, philosopher, and computer scientist from the United States. He was born in Washington, D.C. and later died in Hudson, Ohio.
Church was educated at Harvard University and held the distinction of being the doctoral advisor for several notable figures in their respective fields, such as Alan Turing, Stephen Cole Kleene, Raymond Smullyan, John G. Kemeny, Michael O. Rabin, Dana Scott, Alfred Foster (mathematician), David Kaplan (philosopher), and Martin Davis.
