Russian mathematician
Aleksei Pogorelov was born on March 3, 1919, in Korocha, Russia. He was a mathematician, physicist, and politician whose career spanned over multiple fields and areas of research. Pogorelov was awarded numerous honors during his lifetime, such as the Lenin Prize, the Order of Lenin, the Stalin Prize, the Order of the Red Banner of Labour, the Order of the Patriotic War 2nd class, and the Order of Merit (Ukraine).
Pogorelov held multiple citizenships, including from the Soviet Union, Russia, and Ukraine. He received his education from Moscow State University under the guidance of his doctoral advisor, Aleksandr Danilovich Aleksandrov. Aleksei Pogorelov passed away on December 17, 2002, in Moscow, Russia.
