Aira Technologies offers a platform that aims to improve the performance of wireless networks by extracting contextual information from the data passing through the networks and analyzing it. According to Aira, its platform can help mobile network operators (MNOs) achieve better network throughput, coverage, and capacity, resulting in cost savings. Such improvements in network performance also yield a more stable user experience in environments where variability is prominent.
Aira's founders believe that Open Radio Access Network (ORAN) technology is going to fundamentally change the way wireless networks are built, and the company operates under this premise. Another presupposition that constitutes the company's vision is that machine learning will revolutionize wireless technology.
Aira recommends that mobile network operators (MNOs) should invest in more cost-effective network architectures that can also enable the addition of new services on an end-to-end basis. The company aims to facilitate this by disaggregating the RAN and virtualizing its components, which enables the integration of solutions from multiple vendors into RAN infrastructure. Aira's targeted performance improvements result in higher throughput and wider cell coverage, allowing MNOs to deploy fewer sites and utilize less energy as a result.
Anand Chandrasekher, the CEO of Aira, has commented about the role AI and machine learning have played in image recognition and its potential to improve wireless technology.
AI and machine learning have been instrumental in changing the way image recognition is done today and created many new businesses. In today’s environment where traditional techniques to improve wireless have reached the point of diminishing returns, we see tremendous potential for Aira’s core capabilities in applying ML to wireless.
In 2022, Aira Technologies was selected to participate in the 5G Open Innovation Lab program, which facilitates collaboration between multi-stage start-ups, industry partners, and investors to develop 5G and edge computing solutions.
Jim Brisimitzis, founder and general partner of the 5G OI Lab, has said the following about the program, “Our distinctive model, differentiated from the conventional incubator or accelerator, is the only program globally building a model that directly connects multi-stage startups to global technology platform providers and leading enterprises. Start-ups that are part of this program will attest that the connections we help forge allow them to advance their innovation and commercialization goals at an unprecedented pace."
