80,000 Hours

80,000 Hours is a non-profit providing career advice to graduates. The company offers an online guide to direct users and a community they can join. The company is independent and its services are free since they are funded by individual donors and philanthropic foundations. 80000 Hours participated in the YC S15 cohort of Y Combinator and raised an estimated $120,000.

The platform offers the following services:

• Key ideas guide: This guide covers ideas job seekers require to make their career plans, such as defining social impact, comparing global problems, finding your niche and more. The guide contains fifteen key topics, or the user can listen to a podcast summary or view a two-page summary.

• Podcast: These involve conversations about the world's pressing problems and how careers can be used to solve them. Subscriptions are available on Apple podcasts, Google podcasts, Spotify, and podcast addicts.

• Job board: The company's job board presents publicly advertised vacancies for users to see if they're a good fit for one of them.

• 1-1 advice: Users who are interested in working on one of the highlighted global problems can apply to speak with a team, one-on-one, for free. They can discuss which problem to focus on, look over their plan, introduce them to mentors, and suggest roles that suit their skills.
