In the summer of 2015, the contract at Dnipro ended. Such eminent clubs as Liverpool, Tottenham, Atlético Madrid and Sevilla claimed for Konoplyanka. In the end, Konoplyanka and his father, who is the player's agent, opted for the latter option, making an agreement with the club that defeated Dnipro in the 2014/15 Europa League final. The official debut in the new team took place on August 11 in the match for the UEFA Super Cup against the winner of the Champions League Barcelona. On August 30, Schalke 04 confirmed the signing of the player. The German club loaned the player for a year with the right to further purchase. He made his debut in the German championship with a match against Bayern. He scored his first goal for the new club in the 11th minute in the group stage match of the third round of the Europa League against Krasnodar, which ended 0-1. Season 2017/18

Despite good press reviews (kicker called Yevhen Schalke's best outfield player for a long time) and data from statistical portals (the team's best player in moving the ball forward, in key passes and many other characteristics), Konoplyanka increasingly found himself on the bench in the German Championship , while in the Champions League he mostly left the starting lineup.

In the Champions League, Schalke was in a group with Porto, Galatasaray and Lokomotiv Moscow. In the home match against Porto, he came on as a substitute. He started the meeting with Lokomotiv from the first minutes and gave an assist in the 88th minute. He played away matches with Galatasaray and Porto, as well as the home match of the 6th round with Lokomotiv, at a good level, deserving positive assessments from the media and statistical sites.
