William C. deMille (1878-1955) was an American film director, screenwriter, writer, film producer, television presenter, actor, theatre director, and the father of Agnes de Mille. Born in Washington, North Carolina, DeMille studied at Columbia University. Throughout his career, he often worked with genres such as Western film, drama, romance film, comedy-drama, romantic comedy film, and comedy. He was also a noted playwright prior to moving into film.

DeMille was married to Clara Beranger and had a brother, Cecil B. DeMille, and two other relatives, Katherine DeMille and Richard de Mille.

As a filmmaker, some of his notable works include "Why Change Your Wife?", "Conrad in Quest of His Youth", "The Tree of Knowledge", "For Better or For Worse", "The Secret Game", "The Heir to the Hoorah", "Anton the Terrible", "The Sowers", and "The Wild Goose Chase".
