The University of Copenhagen is a public educational institute located in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was founded in 1479 and operates in the education, higher education, and university industries. Also known as Københavns Universitet, its motto is "Coelestem adspicit lucem".
The university is accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Science, Denmark. It is affiliated with the European University Association, International Alliance of Research Universities, and the League of European Universities. It has been assigned 21 patents.
