In 2014, Tom Hulme joined Google Ventures as general partner. Previously, Hulme was a design director at IDEO Europe, where he worked on developing OpenIDEO, an open innovation platform. Hulme also worked on OIEngine, an online platform for IDEO's clients. Prior to IDEO, Hulme was managing director at Marcos, a British sports car manufacturer. Hulme also founded Magnom, a startup specializing in the development of magnetic filters. Hulme's filter designs were used in Formula One, Superbikes, JCB loaders, and central heating systems.
Hulme exited his own startups and went on to invest in more than twenty companies as an angel investor. His credits include behind the founding investor in Mile IQ (subsequently sold to Microsoft), Divimove (exited to Freemantle), GoCardless, Cliqz (exited to Burda), Llustre (exited to Fab), Massive Health (exited to Jawbone), Nested, Tray.io, and MoveGuides (renamed to Topia).
Hulme has been recognized as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and has been featured in WIRED UK’s Top 100 Digital Power Brokers numerous times. He has also been included in the Evening Standard list of London’s 1000 Most Influential People. Hulme earned a first class bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of Bristol, and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he received the Baker Scholar Award of high distinction. Tom has also received an honorary doctorate from University Arts London.
