Autocamioane ROMAN (with the DAC division) is a Romanian truck and bus manufacturer. The company was established following World War II on the foundation of the aged ROMLOC automotive factory created in 1921. To allude to the communist days, the industrial plant was called Steagul Rosu (the Red Flag). By 2000, about 750,000 trucks had been manufactured by the company.
By the end of the sixties, the company decided to create a different range of vehicles based on the German diesel trucks by the MAN company. In 1969, both companies came together and signed the fifteen-year license agreement, providing the production in Brasov with thirteen kinds of chassis in forty-three variants with engines up to 256 hp. The company was renamed Intreprinderea de Autocamioane Brashov and is abbreviated as IAB.
In 2018, Roman and MHS Truck & Bus, importer and service partner of the Romanian Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles, signed a joint venture agreement to manufacture multipurpose vehicle platforms for the Romanian Army. The partnership will see the production of military trucks, tankers, tractors, trailers, and semitrailers for the operations of the Romanian Army to contribute to the rehabilitation of the production of military and civilian transport platforms in Romania.
