Rodion Shchedrin (born December 16, 1932) is a composer, pianist, musician, and librettist from the Soviet Union, Lithuania, Russia, and Germany. Shchedrin, whose birth name is Rodion Konstantinovich Shchedrin, was born in Moscow and received his education at the Moscow Conservatory.
Shchedrin has worked in various genres, including opera, symphony, and ballet. Throughout his career, he has received multiple awards such as the Order of Saint Anne, USSR State Prize, Honored Artist of the RSFSR, People's Artist of the RSFSR, State Prize of the Russian Federation, Lenin Prize, Order of Lenin, Order of the Red Banner of Labour, Order of Merit for the Fatherland (4th class), Order "For Merit to the Fatherland", Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" (2nd class), Order of Merit for the Fatherland (3rd class), and the Order of Honor. Rodion Shchedrin is married to Maya Plisetskaya.
