Onfido

Onfido is a technology company that helps businesses verify people's identities using a photo-based identity document, a selfie and artificial intelligence algorithms. The company deploys artificial intelligence and uses Government IDs and facial biometrics to ensure that IDs are genuine that match with the users presenting them, enabling clients to onboard more users while reducing risk. Customers and partners of Onfido include Revolut, Zipcar, WorldRemit and Bitstamp.

It was founded in July 2012 by three former students at Oxford University: Husayn Kassai, Eamon Jubbawy, and Ruhul Amin. Onfido is headquartered in London and has over 400 employees in offices across San Francisco, New York, Lisbon, Paris, Delhi, and Singapore.

Onfido offers a mobile application for their identity verification services, as well as an API and a SDK to integrate their services in websites or software. Their use cases include know your customer (KYC), driver registration, user onboarding, user verification, identity verification, fraud detection, and age verification.

Onfido's platform uses smartphone camera's to compare and cross-reference a person's facial biometrics with a photo identification, such as a driver's license or passport. The person's identification can also be checked against global databases. The platform uses manual and machine learning technologies. These technologies include optical character recognition and face detection.
