Overview

Kiari Kendrell Cephus, better known by his stage name Offset, is an American rapper and songwriter. He is best known as one of the founding members of Atlanta-based rap group Migos, alongside rappers Quavo and Takeoff, as well as his high-profile marriage to fellow rapper Cardi B. As of 2022, Offset has had six top ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart both with Migos and as a solo artist.

Early life

Offset was born in Lawrenceville, Georgia, on December 14, 1991. As a child, he participated in team sports and even worked as a background dancer, appearing in the music video for Whitney Houston's 2002 track "Watchulookinat." Offset said in a 2018 New York Times profile that his father was not present during his childhood and that instead his "mama was my dad."

Music career

Offset formed the trap rap trio Migos with his cousin Quavo (born Quavious Keyate Marshall) and Takeoff (born Kirsnik Khari Ball) in 2010. The trio rose to prominence with their 2013 single "Versace," which showcased their patented triplet flow, off of their mixtape Young Rich N*ggas. The single garnered widespread attention in the music world, even prompting fellow rapper Drake to hop on a remix. Migos went on to release the wildly successful albums Culture and Culture II in 2017 and 2018, respectively, and further cemented their place in the rap world.

On Halloween 2017, Offset surprise-released the album Without Warning, a collaboration with rapper 21 Savage and hip-hop producer Metro Boomin. The album immediately hit the Top 5 on the Billboard Album Chart and spawned Offset's top 20 single "Ric Flair Drip," which went triple platinum. Guest appearances on the Top 10 hits "Taste" by Tyga and "Zeze" by Kodak Black further advanced his career as a solo artist. In 2019, Offset released his debut solo album, Father of 4, which debuted in the Top 4 and spawned the Grammy-nominated single "Clout," featuring his wife, Cardi B.
