Nikolaas Tinbergen
Nikolaas Tinbergen was a Dutch zoologist and ethologist known for proposing that "four questions" must be answered to explain a behavior: ontogeny, phylogeny, mechanism, and adaptation. A founder of modern ethology, he shared the 1973 Nobel Prize in medicine with Karl von Frisch and Konrad Lorenz.
