First established in 1901, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is a 665-bed quaternary care teaching hospital that provides comprehensive health care for the region. The hospital is currently staffed with more than 800 physicians, 3200 employees, and 150 volunteers.
Newark Beth Israel is home to a heart transplant center, RWJBarnabas Health's Heart Failure Treatment and Transplant Program; an Advanced Lung Disease and Transplant Program; and a Valve Center that performs cardiac valve procedures, including minimally invasive transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVRs). It is also home to a comprehensive robotic surgery center and an accredited sleep disorders center. The Frederick B. Cohen, MD, Cancer and Blood Disorders Center and the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey Breast Health Center provide integration of cancer prevention programming, specialized care, and treatment options.
Dr. Montgomery is a member of the Advanced Heart Failure Treatment and Transplant team—a cardiologist whose specialties include advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, heart transplantation, and coronary interventions. Dr. Montgomery holds a master's in Public Health from Yale School of Public Health and a master's in Business Administration from St. Joseph's University. He completed his medical education at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and his internal medicine residency at Aria-Jefferson Health.
