Dad, Husband, CEO of Submittable.com
Michael FitzGerald is the CEO of Submittable, a Missoula based company that helps businesses to accept, review, and make decisions on applications and documents, all in one place. Submittable is like Dropbox, but with a purpose, and their clients include Nike, NPR, Knight Foundation, Stanford University, Playboy, National Geographic, and the New Yorker and thousands of other enterprise brands we all know and love.
Liberal arts student by training, Michael had a career in writing, but inspired by a fellow Montanian, chose to follow a path of entrepreneurship. In 2012, under Michael's leadership, Submittable was accepted into Y Combinator. Because Michael had two kids at the time, even Paul Graham was not sure if Submittable could make it, but FitzGerald stuck to his gut and persevered. His goal has always been to build a large company in Montana, so that his kids could work and live in their home state.
Shortly after raising Series A, FitzGerald found out that he was ill with a terminal cancer, but despite the challenges, and thanks to a network for friends, investors and doctors, he was able to overcome the diseases and return back to work. In order to help fellow cancer patients, Michael started a side project, a HAI Pump Finder, a website that has a chance of helping tens of thousands of patients every year. In July 2019, Submittable announced a Series B round of funding, which Michael is planning to use in order to grow the company, and to hire more people. It has taken a long time to get right, but Submittable is growing, scaling, and winning customers.
