Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) is a government venture capital firm headquartered in Columbia, Maryland. It was founded in 1998 by the State of Maryland. The firm acts an incubator and accelerator for early stage technology and life sciences companies in Maryland. It currently operates four funds - the Tech Transfer Fund, the Builder Fund, the Seed Fund, and the Venture Fund.
The Tech Transfer Fund helps companies move their ideas from research labs into the commercial sector. It has supported the development of stem cell based therapies and includes a N-STEP (NIST- Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Program) to promote scientists to become entrepreneurs.
The Builders Fund is a seed fund that helps companies whose founders come from a socially or economically disadvantaged background and do not have access to traditional forms fo capital.
The Seed Fund invests in Maryland based technology startups.
The Venture Fund ins an evergreen fund that invests in early stage Maryland technology companies. It generally makes initial investments of $500 thousand – $1.5 million. In 2020, it was reported that the fund had $100 million worth of assets under management.
