Jared Friedman is the cofounder of Scribd and a group partner at Y Combinator. Friedman serves on sf.citi's emeritus board of directors.
Friedman attended Harvard University from 2003 to 2007, where he pursued a bachelor of arts in computer science and economics. He dropped out after three years.
Scribd was launched in March 2007 by Friedman, Trip Adler, and Tikhon Bernstam. During his time there, Friedman served as the company's CTO. Described as the "YouTube for documents" and "Netflix for books," Scribd is a digital library for media, including ebooks, audiobooks, podcasts, magazines, news articles, sheet music, and documents. Subscribers have access to Scribd's entire library, while non-subscribers can access limited content. All users can upload their own content.
Friedman has been a group partner at Y Combinator since October 2015. He is the accelerator's sixteenth full-time partner.
Friedman has made investments in companies including Cruise, Instacart, Ironclad, Rappi, Mercury, T2, Awesomic, Lawn Love, Eight, Parse, FundersClub, Rickshaw, and Zesty.
