James Drake is the Founder and Chairman of the Future Science Publishing Group. He is a philanthropist focused on science publishing and education.
Drake earned a biochemistry degree at the University of Leeds. After, he worked at the British Industrial Biological Research Association (BIBRA) on food toxicology research, before moving into academic publishing.
At Elsevier, he worked as Commissioning Editor before moving to Academic Press as Senior Editor. He joined Current Drugs Ltd in 1987, where he started the Current Opinion journals, pulling information on pharmaceutical patents monthly and covering a wide range of medical topics in publication.
In the early 1990s, Drake left organization work and founded Ashley Publications Ltd and Expert Reviews Ltd.
In 2003 he founded Future Medicine Ltd and Future Science Ltd under the Future Science Group umbrella. Informa PLC acquired Ashley Publications Ltd. in 2005.
As Founder and Chairman of the Future Science Publishing Group, Drake has worked with journals and community websites, like Nanomedicine and Regenerative Medicine, Neuro Central, and Oncology Central. The publications were established to offer peer-reviewed scientific journals to the scientific and medical community.
The Drake Foundation was established by James Drake In 2014 to bridge sports with science. Much of the work within the foundation has examined sports concussions and head injury. Drake is active in work done within the foundation to make an impact for athletes and find solutions to neurodegenerative diseases, like dementia.
