Swiss physicist
Jack Steinberger was born on May 25, 1921, in Bad Kissingen, Germany. He held citizenship in both the United States and Germany. Steinberger was a physicist by occupation and passed away on December 12, 2020, in Geneva.
Steinberger was educated at the University of Chicago, Illinois Institute of Technology, and New Trier High School. Notably, his doctoral advisor at the University of Chicago was renowned physicist Edward Teller. Steinberger went on to mentor Melvin Schwartz as his doctoral student.
During his career, Jack Steinberger received a prestigious accolade: the 1988 Nobel Prize in Physics. He was also the father of child Ned Steinberger.
