Hugging Face is a company which develops social AI-run chatbot applications. It was established in 2016 by Clement Delangue and Julien Chaumond. The company is based in Brooklyn, New York, United States.

Product

The company’s main products are their chatbot applications, which allows users to interact with the artificial intelligence that the company developed. To accomplish this, Hugging Face developed its own natural language processing (NLP) model called Hierarchical Multi-Task Learning (HMTL) and managed a library of pre-trained NPL models under PyTorch-Transformers.Their chatbot applications are, as of September 2019, only available on iOS. These applications are Chatty, Talking Dog, Talking Egg, and Boloss. These AIs are intended to be a digital companion that can entertain users.

Funding

Hugging Face raised $4 million in a Seed Round held on May 2018. Investors who have contributed funding for the company were A. Capital Ventures, Betaworks, and Ronny Conway.

Hugging Face raised $15 million in a Series A in December 2019. The round was led by Lux Capital, with participation from Salesforce chief scientist Richard Socher and OpenAI CTO Greg Brockman, as well as Betaworks and A.Capital.
