On January 4, 2008, it became available for download using the Steam digital distribution service. The previous game of the series is Grand Theft Auto 2, and the next - Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The events of Grand Theft Auto III take place in the fictional American city of Liberty City, the prototype of which was New York. The protagonist of the game is Claude - an nameless criminal, who became a victim of a criminal conspiracy of his friend Katalina, and Miguel, a member of the Colombian drug cartel. The game contains elements of a car symbolic and a third -person shooter. The concept of the game and gameplay in combination using a 3D game of the game for the first time in this series of games contributed to the fact that Grand Theft Auto III was well met by players and became the best-selling video game of 2001 [8] and together with the subsequent games of the series, Grand Theft Auto : Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, had a significant impact on the playing industry [9] and the sales of the PlayStation 2. On November 11, 2021, the Remasters of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition was released, which included updated. version of Grand Theft Auto III.
