Forza Horizon is an arcade car simulator video game developed by Playground Games in collaboration with Turn 10 Studios and published by Microsoft Studios in October 2012 exclusively for the Xbox 360 console. It is the fifth part of the Forza series.
Compared to the previous games in the series, Forza Horizon provides the player with an open world. The action takes place at the fictional Horizon Festival in Colorado. According to the plot, a newcomer arrives at the festival and decides to break into the leaders among its riders. The player can take part in various races, including both races and side tasks, for example, performing spectacular techniques. As the player progresses, new cars also become available, which can be modified at will. There is an online multiplayer mode for up to 8 players, containing both most of the features of single player and unique types of competitions. In addition, it is possible to compare your results and statistics with other people.
Initially, Forza Horizon was conceived as an experimental spin-off of the Forza series. During the creation, significant innovations were made and the authentic concept of the music festival was recreated, for which the development team collaborated with world-famous DJs and companies. The gaming press mostly met Forza Horizon positively: a successful concept, high-quality graphics and well-developed cars received positive ratings, but the plot and the limitations of the open world were criticized. The game also gained commercial success and prompted the publisher to create a full—fledged line of the Forza Horizon series: in 2014, a sequel was released - Forza Horizon 2.
