DNA sequence requests will be checked for compatibility with the MoClo system, their cloning technology, that sequences are free of patents and for biosecurity. DNA synthesis is done by Twist Bioscience, which is transformed into bacteria in the Endy lab to make clones that can be distributed. The synthesis, cloning, sequencing and distribution of genes through bionet is under the Open Material Transfer Agreement (OpenMTA).
The BioBricks Foundation pledged to make 10,000 genes available through bionet, a system developed by BioBricks with support from the Helmsley Charitable Trust for users to keep track of, find and share materials.
