Dragon Age: Inquisition

Dragon Age: Inquisition is an RPG developed by Bioware and published by its parent company Electronic Arts on November 18, 2014.

Dragon Age series

The history of the Dragon Age series began in 2002, when the Bioware studio, founded by 3 doctors, decided to "consolidate" its success with the release of a new role-playing game in a new universe.

The first beta version of the game was created in November 2002, and the game itself was announced at E3 2004. The development of part 1 took 7 years. The first game in the series - Dragon Age: Origins has sold three million copies!

Resounding success!

In 2007, Bioware was bought by EA, which is notorious in the gaming industry for its "microtransactions" and the fact that it closed and "killed" promising studios. And from that moment on, many fans noticed that the Bioware studio was somehow depressed. Mass Effect 3, which was supposed to complete the space trilogy, Mass Effect infuriated fans with an ending that did not depend on the player's actions in any way.

On March 8, 2011, Bioware studio releases a sequel to Dragon Age: Origins - Dragon Age 2. The game failed, fans scolded it for its unfinished work and the same locations.

Somehow from the shame of Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3, the studio decided to start work on the third part of the Dragon Age series. As planned by the game, the player had to lead the Inquisition, explore a huge open world and gain influence.

Development

Towards the end of 2011, a team led by Mark Darrah started thinking about the concept of a new game. In early 2012, the plan was ready and development began.

And the game immediately ran into technical difficulties. Because the engine of the last 2 games was already outdated at that time, so the decision was made to take the Frostbite engine.

This engine was developed by DICE (also a subsidiary of EA) for the Battlefield series of games. The problem was that the engine was being developed for a first-person shooter. It simply lacked many of the features that were needed for the game. For example, why do you need to display the character in the game in the first person?

And on the shoulders of programmers from Bioware lay the difficult task of creating all this manually. The development of the game went on for 3 years, but in November 2014 the game was released.

Criticism

The game received rather lukewarm reviews upon release, due to its lousy controls on PC and a rather mediocre political storyline.

The game turned out to be quite controversial, and most likely will remain so forever.

Metacritic score: Press: 85/100, Player: 6.0/10
