Douglas Hofstadter

Douglas Hofstadter was born on February 15, 1945 in New York City. He is a computer scientist, philosopher, writer, and physicist from the United States. Hofstadter's birth name is Douglas Richard Hofstadter. He is the child of Robert Hofstadter, a Nobel laureate physicist.

Hofstadter received his education from several institutions, including Palo Alto High School, Stanford University, and the University of Oregon. His doctoral advisor was Gregory Wannier.

Douglas Hofstadter has had several doctoral students, including David Chalmers, William Herbert York, Melanie Mitchell, Gary McGraw, and Eric Nichols.

Hofstadter's most notable work is Gödel, Escher, Bach, a book that explores the intersections of math, art, and music.
