Max Daetwyler Co. was officially founded in 1956 by Max Daetwyler and Lilly Schneeberger; the company's focus at the time was in the development and manufacturing of aviation parts. The Swiss Armed Forces formed a contract with Daetwyler to manufacture parts for their recently acquired Mirage fighting jets. In 1964, due to a change with the mirage jet project, Daetwyler shifted its focus to graphics and printing. By 1972, they began distributing their high-precision slat blade and developing what would become the basis for the Daetwyer Swiss Tech arm of the company.
In 1974, the company expanded to the US, founding MDC Max Daetwyler Corporation. At this time, they developed the POLISHMASTER and gained global recognition for this high-precision cylinder milling tool.
Though Daetwyler had shifted its focus to developing printing tools, they were still involved in the aircraft industry; in 1983, their Swiss trainer (two seater aircraft) was able to successfully complete its first voyage. In 1992, the aircraft received a FAR 23 certification from the Federal Office of Civil Aviation.
The Daetwyler Group continued to expand and reorganize, and established the Swiss Tech and Industries divisions in 2013 and acquired Rotoflex in 2017.
