He graduated from Northwestern University's Theater Department.
Since 2011, he has acted as creator, host, and executive producer of the comedy game show Billy on the Street, for which he was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Game Show Host in 2013. In 2017, the program was nominated for an Emmy Award in the Best Sketch Variety category.
He has been nominated three times for an Emmy Award with his own series, Money Matters (2011-2017).
As an actor, he rose to fame for his role as Craig Middlebrooks on the series "Parks and Recreation" (2013-2015).
Other popular work includes Billy Epstein in the series "Complicated People" (2015-2017) and roles in the seventh and eighth seasons of the series "American Horror Story" (2017-2018).
