Auth0 is a cloud-based identity authentication platform for application developers. It provides a web-based cloud solution that includes APIs and developer tools for integrating the Auth0 services into applications. It is a customizable platform that can be integrated regardless of language and framework. Auth0 customers can centralize and manage users from multiple identity providers, providing branded signup and login experiences with fine access controls to accommodate complex security requirements. The Auth0 identify platform is a product unit within Okta.
An identity access management (IAM) provider, Auth0 initiates authorization using OAuth 2.0, a framework that defines protocols and workflows, including defining roles, authorization grants (or workflows), authorization requests and responses, and token handling. The addition of the OpenID Connect (OIDC) protocols to verify user identity extends OAuth 2.0, to add authentication to secure user digital identities. Auth0 also enables customers to adapt login services for their business. The Auth0 dashboard and management API enables users to configure login behaviors, connect their user data store, manage those users, choose an authorization grant, and establish authentication factors for a seamless, scalable product with an impactful user experience.
Auth0 is based in Bellevue, Washington, and was founded in 2013 by Eugenio Pace and Matis Woloski. Between 2013 and July 2020, Auth0 raised over $330 million in funding with a valuation of $1.92 billion after its $120 million series F round. On May 3, 2021, Okta completed the acquisition of Auth0 for a reported $6.5 billion. Post-acquisition, the company operates as an independent business unit within Okta, led by Auth0 CEO Eugenio Pace, reporting directly to Todd McKinnon, CEO and cofounder of Okta.
