Alexey Sudayev (born August 23, 1912 in Alatyr, Chuvash Republic; died August 17, 1946 in Moscow) was a Soviet engineer, military personnel, and gunsmith known for his gun design work. He is the creator of the PPS submachine gun. Sudayev was educated at the Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University. He had dual citizenship in both the Soviet Union and the Russian Empire.
Throughout his career, he was recognized for his accomplishments and received multiple awards, including the Order of Lenin and the USSR State Prize. The PPS submachine gun is considered Sudayev's most notable work and he is regarded as the founder of the weapon.
