In February 2018, Lutsenko was the first of the Kazakh riders to win the general classification of the Tour of Oman, and in the overall standings Astana Pro Team took first place in this Tour for the first time. On July 1, Aleksey also became the champion of Kazakhstan for the first time in his career in the 174 km group race on the highway. On August 23, Lutsenko won gold at the Asian Summer Games, this time in the 150 km group race in Jakarta (Indonesia). And the next day he won the individual race with a separate start. In October, he won the 4th stage at the Tour of Turkey, took the lead by two stages, but after the final 6th stage he let the Spaniard Edvard Prades pass ahead only by bonus seconds. According to the results of the year, he was recognized by the UCI as the best rider in Asia.
Alexey was born in the village of Bolshaya Malyshka, Kyzylzharsky district, North Kazakhstan region. Countryman of the most famous cyclist of Kazakhstan Alexander Vinokurov, who comes from the neighboring village of Bishkul.

Biography
Lutsenko studied at a rural secondary school until the 7th grade and rode a bicycle, dreaming of the glory of his idol. Later he moved to the regional specialized boarding school for children gifted in sports in Petropavlovsk. In 2007, at the age of 15, he fulfilled the standard of the master of sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan and then entered the Kokshe Sports Academy (Kokshetau city).
