Alexey Aleksandrovich Lutsenko (September 7, 1992, the village of Bolshaya Malyshka, North Kazakhstan region, Kazakhstan) is a Kazakhstani professional road cyclist who has been playing since 2013 for the Astana Pro Team world tour team. World Champion in the group race among the youth in 2012. Three-time champion of the Summer Asian Games (2014 and 2018).
Biography
Alexey was born in the village of Bolshaya Malyshka, Kyzylzharsky district, North Kazakhstan region. Countryman of the most famous cyclist of Kazakhstan Alexander Vinokurov, who comes from the neighboring village of Bishkul.
Lutsenko studied at a rural secondary school until the 7th grade and rode a bicycle, dreaming of the glory of his idol. Later he moved to the regional specialized boarding school for children gifted in sports in Petropavlovsk. In 2007, at the age of 15, he fulfilled the standard of the master of sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan and then entered the Kokshe Sports Academy (Kokshetau city).
In 2011-2012, he raced in the youth team "Astana Continental".
On March 11, 2016, Lutsenko won the 5th stage of the Paris-Nice 2016 cycling race, in August Astana Pro Team extended the contract with Lutsenko for another two years, and in October he won the 8th stage, and then the entire Tour of Hainan.
In February 2017, Lutsenko, as part of the Kazakhstan national team (alias the youth team of Astana Pro Team), became the champion of Asia in the team road race in Bahrain, and on August 23 he won the first stage (5th stage) on the Grand Tour - Vuelta a España. On October 1, he won the annual Tour of Almaty for the fourth time in a row. As a result, Alexey was chosen as the Sportsman of the Year in summer sports according to the results of voting on the website of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In February 2018, Lutsenko was the first of the Kazakh riders to win the general classification of the Tour of Oman, and in the overall standings Astana Pro Team took first place in this Tour for the first time. On July 1, Aleksey also became the champion of Kazakhstan for the first time in his career in the 174 km group race on the highway. On August 23, Lutsenko won gold at the Asian Summer Games, this time in the 150 km group race in Jakarta (Indonesia). And the next day he won the individual race with a separate start. In October, he won the 4th stage at the Tour of Turkey, took the lead by two stages, but after the final 6th stage he let the Spaniard Edvard Prades pass ahead only by bonus seconds. According to the results of the year, he was recognized by the UCI as the best rider in Asia.
In February 2019, he again won the Tour of Oman, winning three stages out of six and ahead of Italian Domenico Pozzovivo (Bahrain Victorious) in the general by 44 seconds. And on March 16, with two falls, he nevertheless managed to snatch the fourth stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico stage race from the future winners of the race, Slovenian Primoz Roglic and Briton Adam Yates. He himself finished the race in the green jersey of the best mountain climber and received the prize of the most active rider. At the end of June, he won all three distances at the Spartakiad of Kazakhstan (individual, team and group races on the highway).
