Soviet physicist
Abram Ioffe (born 17 October 1880, died 14 October 1960) was a physicist from the Russian Empire and later the Soviet Union. He was born in Romny and educated at the Saint Petersburg State Institute of Technology. Ioffe's doctoral advisor was the renowned physicist Wilhelm Röntgen.
Ioffe was a prominent figure in the education and mentorship of several other physicists. His list of doctoral students includes Nikolay Semyonov, Lev Landau, Anatoly Alexandrov, and Lev Davidovich Landau.
Abram Ioffe passed away in Saint Petersburg in 1960, three days before his 80th birthday.
