Abbas Kiarostami

Abbas Kiarostami was an Iranian film director, screenwriter, poet, photographer, and film producer . He was born on June 22, 1940, in Tehran and held Iranian citizenship . Kiarostami passed away on July 4, 2016, in Paris .

He was educated at the University of Tehran and had a diverse career with occupations including film director, screenwriter, photographer, film producer, poet, cinematographer, illustrator, graphic designer, contributing editor, and actor . Abbas was known for his use of Persian poetry in the dialogue, titles, and themes of his films .

During his career, Kiarostami received several awards at notable film festivals, including the Cannes Film Festival, Thessaloniki International Film Festival, Venice Film Festival, École Normale Supérieure, Locarno International Film Festival, and an honorary doctorate .

Abbas Kiarostami directed numerous films, such as A Wedding Suit, First Case, Second Case, Fellow Citizen, First Graders, Where Is the Friend's Home?, Life, and Nothing More..., Through the Olive Trees, Taste of Cherry, The Wind Will Carry Us, ABC Africa, 10 on Ten, Like Someone in Love, 24 Frames, Recess, Two Solutions for One Problem, So Can I, Tribute to the Teachers, Orderly or Disorderly, and Roads of Kiarostami .

His notable works include Crimson Gold, Willow and Wind, and The White Balloon . Kiarostami was the founder of The Lie and a member of the board of directors of 24 Frames . He was also the father of Bahman Kiarostami .
