The World Digital Library (WDL) is a company based in Washington, D.C., United States. It was founded on April 21, 2009 by James H. Billington and is a subsidiary of the Library of Congress. The WDL operates in the Open Educational Resources (OER) industry, as well as Educational Technology and Technology sectors.
Also known by its short name, WDL, the organization's primary goal is to provide a platform for global access to cultural treasures. The Library of Congress is credited as the creator of the World Digital Library.
