William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin, was born in Belfast on June 26, 1824, and held citizenship in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. He was a physicist, scientist, mathematician, politician, engineer, and astronomer. Thomson was also known as Lord Kelvin.
He received his education at the University of Glasgow, Peterhouse, Cambridge, and the University of Cambridge. William Thomson was the son of mathematician James Thomson and had a notable work entitled 'Kelvin'.
William Hopkins was Thomson's doctoral advisor, and he had a doctoral student named Robert Mond. He passed away on December 17, 1907, in Largs.
