William Barton Rogers (1804-1882) was a physicist, geologist, and organizational founder born in Philadelphia. He studied at the University of Virginia and held American citizenship. Among his many accomplishments, Rogers is best recognized as the founder of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
