Vendia is a company that offers a serverless and distributed platform that enables customers to share data and code in real time, across several clouds and companies. The company's platform offers features like multi-party, cross-cloud, and cross-account usability; real-time forecasting; and a flexible scalability model to allow users to share data and code across multiple clouds and companies.
The company was founded in 2020 by CEO Tim Wagner and Shruthi Rao and is headquartered in San Francisco. Vendia's concept is to allow companies to share data amongst themselves while using alternative cloud hosts, and does this by having a virtual data lake built on serverless architecture, inspired by blockchain technology. But Vendia also works to overcome the shortcoming of blockchain, which can be difficult to scale and can lack replicated data storage. Vendia has been used by companies such as BMW, UNFI, Resolution Life, Atos, Purina, and Block Skye.
The company's platform, Vendia Share, offers a place to build and run real-time data apps that are scalable and secure across companies and cloud providers. The platform includes serverless ledger and lineage capabilities to ensure data accuracy, provenance, traceability, and safety without the complexity of do-it-yourself blockchain implementations. Vendia's platform is not build on a public blockchain, meaning the only participants for Vendia service are those that are specifically granted permission.
The platform allows users to create APIs without needing to create the infrastructure, provisioning, or management of the API. All that is required, according to Vendia, is a JSON schema representation of a data model, and Vendia compiles the schema into a serverless resource customized by the model and fully-managed, deployed as https-based GraphQL engine for reading and writing data with type checking.
Because Vendia uses an as-a-service model, the security, operational isolation, and governance capabilities expected from the platform are offered. As well, when building an application through Vendia, the user does not need to worry about the operational complexity of safely running the underlying resources. The as-a-service model also works to provide users of the platform with deployments for use cases in weeks, and the capability to add partners in minutes, in order to help users deploy and use their custom solutions faster. And to do so without the cost and overhead of traditional cloud management.
Vendia suggests the platform for use for any company or industry that securely shares sensitive data with real-time data applications. This includes the travel and hospitality industry, software-as-a-service startups, automotive industry, not-for-profits, healthcare, and biotechnology.
Vendia Share use cases
Cross-cloud modernization
In the case of a user needing to modernize from on premises data to cloud, Vendia offers the platform that offers the value of rich data with the ease of cloud, making data available across clouds, with DR, fault tolerance, resiliency, and scalability built in. This can further keep data in multiple places synchronized and kept up-to-date in real-time and all the time.
Low Code backend for Startups
Vendia suggests the platform can be used by startups to help accelerate time to product-market fit and wasting time and money on complex backend development. This includes eliminating the need for staffing engineers, defined data models, DIY API development, and infrastructure deployment, before the startup has a market-fit. This compresses the backed development, similar to companies such as Bubble, Kleeen, and Retool, which compress the frontend development.
Partner data exchange
Vendia suggests the platform for companies needing to register partners, their offerings, associated collateral, transaction workflows, and more; where Vendia can be used in place of developing a backend and offers a platform to connect a partner ecosystem without DIY API development and infrastructure management.
Serverless ledger and lineage
Vendia's serverless ledger combines blockchain technology with the critical capabilities enterprises require which blockchain lacks, such as high throughput, performance, scale, security, reliability, and integrations. This can be for supply chain, indemnification, track-and-trace solutions, or more.
Settlements and clearing
Vendia suggests the company's platform for batch processes to turn them into continuous data flows, reducing the possible risk of outstanding balances and manual disputes, while offering multi-party reconciliation and issue resolution. The platform allows users to reconcile and complete transactions based on a universal source of truth, to ensure payments are fair, accurate, and safe.
