Autonomous Detect and Avoid (DAA) is vital for significant increase in the adoption of Unmanned Aircrafts (UAs) in crowded military and commercial airspaces. A holistic DAA capability has to integrate the human initiated and DAA commands. This integration has to keep in mind human factor such as cognitive-load, autonomy reliability, and mission efficiency. The responsible of safe operation and efficiency lies with the pilot in the foreseeable future. The goal of the remote pilot is to satisfy and balance two critical, but sometimes conflicting, goals of safety, and mission efficiency. The project objective is to provide experiment based recommendations, specifications, design, and prototypes for Human Computer Interface (HCI) and UAS modules for effectively integrating DAA commands with remote pilot commands sent over a Command and Control (C2) link with varying latency. This holistic DAA capability will rigorously demarcate DAA and RP responsibility, provide intuitive DAA information on the Ground Control Station (GCS) User Interface (UI), and maximize safety and mission-efficiency of the unmanned aircraft while considering human-factors and data-based validation.
