The developers announced the testing of the feature on their Twitter Blue account, a $2.99 subscription whose users get access to the new features. To use NFT as a profile image, users need to connect a compatible wallet containing a collection token.
Coinbase Wallet, MetaMask, Rainbow, Argent, Trust and Ledger Live wallets are supported. The image itself will be inscribed in a hexagon to make the use of NFT stand out from the usual round avatars.
"Installing an NFT image will allow your Twitter account and connected cryptocurrency address to be associated. That is, your account will be able to associate with your current and early cryptocurrency transactions and assets, including other NFTs in your wallet, because data in public blockchains is open to all," the developers write.
The message stresses that Twitter will not try to access the user's wallet or withdraw funds from it. However, one should be wary of scammers who might try to trick the user and gain access to the assets.
The fact that it will be possible to use NFT for images on users' avatars was announced last September. Twitter also supports payments in bitcoins through Lightning Network to "tip" users.
