SwipeVideo is a cloud-based web motion video system designed to allow for omnidirectional viewing and displaying of video content. The free-viewpoint video is capable of 360-degree angles. SwipeVideo includes the free-viewpoint video editing software and applications to shoot and develop virtual reality- and mixed reality-related systems and enables users to access free-viewpoint video for enterprise using a management tool.
While other multi-angle viewing experiences have occurred, notably in the world of sports, Shinya Shimojo, CEO and founder of AMATELUS, said the difference between these more traditional multi-angle viewing experiences and SwipeVideo is that SwipeVideo's system allows the user to swipe the viewpoint through the environment, whereas previous multi-angle viewing was at the discretion of an editor.
SwipeVideo content can be created using any digital camera, including those in smartphones and tablets (according to product claims). As well, SwipeVideo claims it is capable of real-time content, delivering in a 4G environment with users able to change angles and zoom in or out in real time. SwipeVideo content can be viewed through a web browser, without need for an application, and can be embedded into a website or viewed from other applications, such as Instagram or Twitter. Videos created through SwipeVideo can be created through continuous shots or through multiple, separate shots to create a multi-angle video.
SwipeVideo uses cloud distribution, and the company has also considered on-premises provision, local environment instant conversion system, in-app viewing, and more as possible business models. As well, the company is working to develop customer-to-customer (CtoC) services to unify videos and offer multi-view videos simultaneously. SwipeVideo suggests the company's CtoC ambitions will be deployed easier in a 5G environment with the faster upload and download speeds offered by 5G.
While AMATELUS sees opportunities in a variety of markets, and many early demonstrations of the SwipeVideo product have been in the entertainment market, the company sees the product as well suited for the technical education market. The company suggests the free viewpoint video would be well suited for the teaching of difficult to understand material in that it would offer slowing, stopping, zooming, and multiple viewpoints.
These possibilities for use in education were explored through technical videos for the technical training of beauticians. In the videos, developed for SwipeVideo, an instructor shows students how to cut a specific hair cut, and the use of free viewpoint allows students to see the cut from multiple angles.
SwipeVideo collaborated with TV Asahi for a pay-per-view show titled "Choujin Joshi Senshi Garivenger V," which aired exclusively on the TV Asahi Douga platform. The show featured comedian Eiji Kotouge and V-Tuber Denno Shoujo Siro and was, according to SwipeVideo, a world first release of a free-viewpoint video featuring virtual characters. This was also the first SwipeVideo distribution of 3D CG images that did not require a VR headset. The event could be viewed on a web browser and was intended to show SwipeVideo's capability to scale content to a wider audience while retaining the experience of VR.
