Space Adventures is responsible for eight spaceflights to the International Space Station that were completed with private citizens. The company was founded in 1988 by Eric Anderson and Peter Diamandis, in Vienna, Virginia, United States.
Space Adventures utilized Russian Soyuz spacecraft to reach the ISS, and the individuals lived on board for twelve days. The company also offers circum-lunar spaceflight missions which allow two of their passengers to travel around the far side of the moon, as well as suborbital flights, and ZERO-G Weightless flights.
Space Adventures is has created several spaceflight packages for which their clients can take advantage of including spacewalks, launch tours, and spaceflight training in addition to their primary International Space Station package. Their Space Station package includes travel at speeds of 17,500 miles per hour, at over 250 miles over the Earth's surface. The time in the ISS can be spent watching Earth, assisting in research, or designing your own mission program.
Training for spaceflight, and more specifically a spacewalk takes weeks to prepare for and is exercised at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City, Moscow, Russia. Passengers become familiar with the use and operation of the Orlan spacesuit and practice the space walk underwater. Each process of exiting and re-entering the space station in the specific spacesuit is accounted for in training.
