Signature reduction is the concept and act of increasing stealth and reducing perception.
For special operations forces, such as the Navy SEALs or Green Berets, to perform covert operations. This already sets a floor for signature reduction, and recent advancements in sensors and detection technology has created newfound importance in improving stealth capabilities.
Other military branches and divisions have focused on signature reduction improvements, emphasizing non-traditional techniques to increase stealth in areas including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and information scouting networks.
US military announced in October 2020 its Asymmetric Warfare Group (AWG) would be dissolved. The group, which is known as a highly influential Army group focused on training Army soldiers in evolving battlefields and stealth operations, is planned to be dispersed throughout remaining Army organizations. The armed forces branch announced AWG's lessons and technology would be maintained by the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center (CAC) via the Center for Army Lessons Learned (CALL) and Centers of Excellence (COEs).
The Pentagon has been involved in research related to stealth rocket fuel, which shows fewer infrared signatures when used in missiles and other propelled weapons. The research is an effort for signature reduction in the military's air-to-air, land-to-air, and air-to-land weaponry systems to counter advanced sensor systems.
