Search algorithm is the step-by-step procedure used to locate specific data from a collection of data. It is a fundamental procedure in computing. In computer science, when searching for data, the difference between a fast application and a slower one often lies in the use of the proper search algorithm.

Google uses search algorithms to sort through the billions of web pages and other information it has, to be able to provide what it believes are the best answers to the users' queries.
